According to Medical News Today, elderberries are “the fruit of the Sambucus tree," and have long been known for their natural immune-boosting properties when taken daily. My family takes elderberry syrup, which I make at home, on a regular basis. I find it is especially crucial for me since I work with kids regularly, so I am constantly exposed to tiny kid germs, lol.
“Symptoms were relieved on average 4 days earlier.....[prior to those patients who didn't receive elderberry treatment, and] Elderberry extract seemed to offer an efficient, safe and cost-effective treatment for influenza.”
Elderberries have a host of benefits beyond boosting the immune system, some of them being:
helping to fight cold and flu symptoms
help with improving respiratory issues
antioxidant and antiviral properties
high level of flavanoids, which help to protect healthy cells from harmful free radicals
high levels of vitamin A and fiber content
For additional info on elderberries, I would check out this article over on herbwisdom.com. It does a great job of listing the history, benefits, and safe use of elderberries.
As I stated above, I have created my own elderberry syrup recipe, for my family and I.
However, if you want to try your hand at making your own recipes using elderberries, I have listed some recipes below that might work.
You can also buy dried elderberries from this site.
Fun for kids, and good for them!
I hope you found this post helpful, and if you try any of the recipes, let me know in the comments, how they work out for you.
Thanks!
